HP41 v Coffee Spill

Postby DROBNJAK » Mon Oct 17, 2011 9:16 am

Some 20 years ago I did spill some coffee onto the keyboard of HP41CV. needles to say it stopped working there and then.

My idea is to replace the dead motherboard with HP 41CL.

I would say that only motherboard and CPU are dead. My guess is that keyboard consists only of wires and buttons so there is nothing to short circuit or damage there.

But question is would a keyboard circuitry survive a coffee spill?

If the coffee had sugar in it your keyboard circuitry could be shorted. The short could be like holding two or more keys down at once.

Should be real easy to fix. A small round artist brush and a cap full of 95% alcohol will clean up most any circuit board.

I would recommend going ahead with your plan to purchase the Sy 41CL motherboard. But first get the original HP 41CV motherboard / keyboard operational with a good alcohol cleaning.

Let me know if I can help further number_6@midcoast.com
