HP-41CV batt contact corrosion repair.

Postby amclaussen » Fri Aug 14, 2009 1:29 am

I guess this has happened to many HP-41CV users before...

Mine has suffered total corrosion in the golden contacts that connect the battery holder to the flexible circuit board. In my calculator, the corrosion has totally disolved the golden traces for a distance of maybe half an inch (1 cm) from the contact point with the battery. I have temporally placed a couple of thin wires making contact to the continuation of the circuit traces but if I remove the battery holder or slightly bump the calculator, the circuit opens. Does anyone solved this problem in a better manner?

this website has a section about battery contact repair http://www.stefanv.com/calculators/hp41cx.html
It does not look too difficult.

From the FAQ
http://www.hp41.org/FAQ.cfm

• Corrosion can be cleaned off the battery/port connector and the damaged connectors tinned with solder but beware of melting the plastic. In the worst case, thin wires could be soldered directly to the batteries and power points if you don't use power hungry peripherals often. A very nice replacement foil is now available from Diego Díaz (see links page).
