Finaly someone has take time to create a new HP-IL to PC interface. It is made from only new parts, so no need for old obsolete parts.

I saw the prototype in Allschwil and was impressed. Although I do not really need it because I have an HP-IL/PC interface card it is a great achievement because these interface cards are getting rare. The PIL-Box secures the future of HP-41/PC interfacing! Thank you much, Jean-François!

I would love to get hold of a IL/PC interface, but then I also would have to dig up and old PC with ISA slot.

Fortunately I already have the FSI164A HPIL-to-RS232 interface (almost exactly the same thing as the HP 82164A but with two RS232 channels and optionally up to eight), but I would hope that this new one can be used independently of a PC, and certainly of Windows (which I no longer use). I've used mine mostly for communicating with other things (not a PC) on the workbench. I'm reluctant to invest in any of this kind of product if it's strictly tied to a PC since the PC market moves so quickly and things are here today and gone tomorrow. I've been using my 41cx with HPIL, XIO, Advantage, ZENROM, and XMEM daily since 1986 though, and occasionally my 71 also.

Hi,

Has this product now reached the stage where it is openly available?

Thanks,

Michael

I do not know.

You can try to send Jeff a email and ask. His email is listed the link above.

Thanks jotne, but unfortunately the above website link seems to be "broken" :( .

Cheers,

Update on this ancient thread: I just received a brand-new PIL-box from J-F, and it works perfectly for talking between my HP-41, HP 9114 disk drive, and Windows 7 laptop! It even comes with a PC program called "ILPer" that emulates both a printer and a 9114 disk drive, so you can use your hard drive for all your HP-41 storage, directly read LIF disk images (e.g. all the LIF "swap disks" archived at MoHPC), print program listings to your PC, and so on. Pre-built, tested, and shipped (without IL cable) from France to California for €117. I'm having a blast with it! Highly recommended.

You can find a Linux port of the ILPer software on this very site: http://www.hp41.org/LibView.cfm?Command ... temID=1011
made by Christophe Gottheimer.

HI all,
I bought the PILBOX from Jean-Francois recently. It works really great, especially with Christoph Gießelinks IlPilbox Program, which allows you to install virtual HP devices.
Now my HP-41 CX is controlling 1 real Cassette Drive and as many virtual Cassette drive or Printers I want.
Excellent. :!:

Next step will be to load programs form PC to the HP.

It aims to be an alternative to the old ISA HP-IL board (HP82973A) and to be compatible with most computers/OS that support USB.
