HP 41CV playing up

Postby nhkader » Sun Jun 23, 2019 11:39 pm

Hi All,

I’m new to this forum.

I’ve had an HP41CV since 1982. For the past 20 years I haven’t used it and it was stored without the battery. The springs broke, so I ordered some new ones from the Calculator Store in Spain. The calculator started without any problems but I have a few issues:
1. I cannot execute Size 319 as it returns with TRY AGAIN.
2. I’m unable to store to 00, 03, 04, 07, 08, 11, 12, 15, and 16. The all return with NONEXISTENT.

Could the memory have been damaged in the calculator being unused for 20 years? It seems to manage most other functions.

One other matter, when I put it in PRGRM mode it only shows REG 46.

I’ve tried a full reset but to no avail.

Help appreciated.

Are you sure its a 41CV and not a 41C?
They have different register size.

I’ve had the calculator since 1982 bought brand new when I was reading Chem Eng. I can program it and what’s more aside from the fact that I remember what I had purchased, it also says 41CV on the calculator. I received enough help from the HP Museum of calculators and have already repaired it.

What fixed it? What did you find was the cause of the problem?

A new processor. Some of the ram chips failed. As I mentioned I had intermittent registers declared non existent. I replaced the processor.
