Just a quick newbie question

Thanks for the wonderful content on this site.
Today I repaired my card reader. I only have blank cards. After the card exits the reader I get (card err) then the word card. Is that normal?
My winter project is to learn programming.

Is that normal?

Yes it is. If you read an empty card the chksm is wrong, thus the card error. Next you're prompted for a good card.
Just RTFM -- pick a language that fits for you.
