Which HP41 Emulators do R/W MCs?

Postby mike-stgt » Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:09 pm

Question to the experts: Which emlators of the HP41 do also the CR to read/write magnetic cards (virtually)?
Yes, I know, my NutEm/PC does so, it even reads HP67/97-MC files prepared with Tony Nixons emulators. But I wonder if I am the only one who done it. Who else achieved it too?

Genesis 41 an HP-41CX macOS Emulator by Laurent Spohr has a card reader emulator, unfortunately it is no longer available.

Interesting question! From what I’ve seen, support for virtual magnetic card read/write isn’t very common across HP-41 emulators. Aside from NutEm/PC, a few advanced emulators experiment with peripheral simulation, but full CR functionality is often limited or partially implemented. It really depends on how deeply the emulator models the original hardware. You’re definitely not alone, but it’s still a niche feature. I’d be curious to hear if anyone has achieved this reliably with other setups or custom builds.

W/o listing emulators where CR is "often limited implemented" or "often partially implemented" your contribution to the discussion sounds to me like AI-driven talk in platitudes, hollow blah-blah.

It really depends on how deeply the emulator models the original hardware.

You missed the crucial point: NutEm/PC is not an emulator, it's a f/w interpreter which runs the pristine f/w of the CR. I do not simulate the tempo of a card traveling through the CR, that is why the service module's speed test reports the motor to run more than 20% too fast.

You’re definitely not alone, but it’s still a niche feature.

Pls substantiate this assertion.

I’d be curious to hear if anyone has achieved this reliably with other setups or custom builds.

That proves, you do know nothing and you hope someone else could underpin your statements. What exactly is the goal of your append?

I've been watching him like a hawk, for spammy posts or edits, and to see if he's spamming other forums, because he certainly has marks that hint that he has no knowledge or interest in the 41.  I'll ban and delete him if I confirm that.
