My 78 year old neighbour's new evening routine

Not calculator related, but this is the most level headed forum I know.

My neighbour is 78 and has lived alone since her husband died. Her grandson put a talking AI app on her tablet in the summer and she now chats to it every evening. She's delighted. It remembers her husband's name, asks about her tomatoes and reads her the news in a pleasant voice.

As an old engineer I keep wondering what's going on under the hood. How much does it really remember, where is it all stored, and what does it cost? The grandson set it up with his card and I doubt anyone has checked the monthly amount since.

Has anyone here looked into these AI companion apps for an elderly relative? I'd like to help her keep it, just with eyes open.
